New Mexico Waste Site Took In Asbestos Products

Asbestos fibers can be extraordinarily dangerous and harmful to our health when released into the air. The main danger associated with the toxic fibers comes from the illnesses they can cause when inhaled into the lungs, such as mesothelioma, asbestosis and other forms of cancer.

Asbestos was used in American building projects as well as in a variety of other applications from the middle of the 19th century to today, although its use waned in the 1970s and 1980s. According to Claims Journal, the products should have been disposed of in safer and more appropriate manner than simply being left with industrial garbage in order to keep asbestos fibers from being released into the air.

Fortunately for the people of New Mexico, a worker at the facility discovered the asbestos tiles and reported the dump to authorities. who required the dump to remove the hazardous asbestos and dispose of it properly.

While this case in New Mexico was seemingly rectified before too many people were exposed to the loose asbestos materials, we can only guess how many municipal garbage dumps across the country have asbestos materials illegally sitting in in them that could pose a serious risk to the communities located nearby.
