New York Hospital Sued by Hundreds of Patients

The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn is being sued by more than 100 patients who claim both they and their deceased relatives were harmed by the care they received.

According to the New York Daily News, at least 12 of the cases claim that patients died because of medical malpractice and/or negligence. One complaint involved allowing the puncture wound of a diabetic patient to become so infected that his toes had to be removed. Another lawsuit alleged that a patient who was wearing a bracelet that indicated she was allergic to penicillin was still given the drug.

“The number of suits against Brookdale is alarming,” said state Assemblyman Nick Perry, who called it “a very strong indication that something is definitely wrong with how the hospital is run.”
