Pipeworker Dies Following Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos exposure has claimed yet another life, as a former Marine and  pipeworker who regularly dealt with asbestos products has sadly passed away from lung cancer.

John Thomas “Dick” Burda passed away at the age of 82 in Towson, MD after battling lung cancer that may very well been caused by asbestos he was exposed to throughout his life. During the Korean War Burda served in the Marine Corps, where he likely used a number of tools, weapons, and vehicles that contain asbestos.

Following his service, Burda worked out of Pipe Coverers’ Union 11, where he dealt with asbestos insulation regularly, The Baltimore Sun reported.

In addition to lung cancer, asbestos exposure can also cause other illnesses like mesothelioma and asbestosis. Both of these illnesses are also deadly, and are exclusively caused by the inhalation or ingestion of asbestos particles.
