Club Chef issued a recall for its salsa products due to a concern that they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The recall is in effect for the 12 oz., 16 oz., and 5 lb packages of the product.

A random test by the Ohio Department of Agriculture in an Ohio store revealed the presence of salmonella contamination in a case of Jalapeno peppers, which is an ingredient in the salsa, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The salsa was distributed to foodservice distributors and retailers on March 14 and 15 in Arkansas, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Indiana, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, and Illinois.

There are no reports of illnesses associated with the salsa recall.

Salmonella poisoning can be fatal in frail or elderly people, young children, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include nausea, fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting. Other severe illnesses that can result from Salmonella include arthritis, arterial infections and endocarditis.
