Sportspower Recalls Thousands of Trampolines

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Sportspower Ltd. have jointly issued a voluntary recall for 23,400 trampolines from Sportspower over concerns that the metal legs can separate from the frame. The legs can then puncture the jumping area, thereby posing a risk of deep, penetrating puncture wounds, cuts, and bruises to kids and adults.

According to CPSC, Sportspower received a report of one incident of the metal leg separating from the trampoline and puncturing through the surface, but no injuries have been reported to date. The trampolines were manufactured in China by Sportspower Ltd., of Hong Kong and were sold at Sports Authority stores nationwide between April 2007 and May 2012 for about $540.

The recalled product can be identified as the Sportspower Parkside model TR-14FT-COM trampolines. The model number can be seen on the packaging and inside the instruction manual, reports CPSC. Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the recalled trampolines and contact Sportspower to receive a free repair kit.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently warned in the journal Pediatrics that trampolines are dangerous for children.
