Tractor-Trailer Accident Leads to $26M Settlement
Great Lakes Cheese has agreed to pay $26.1 million to settle a personal injury lawsuit that led to the death of one person and life-changing injuries to another during a car accident that involved a tractor-trailer.
Spencer Chapman was the driver of the tractor-trailer for GLC Transportation Inc., and the cheese company. In July 2010, he hit a Toyota, which led to the death of David Cook and severe brain injuries of Peter M. Sneeringer. Kathryn Sneeringer, Peter’s wife, witnessed the accident that killed her father, two dogs, and left her husband unable to walk normally or speak clearly, according to The Legal Intelligencer.
The complaint states that traffic was halted due to road construction and the tractor-trailer was traveling at 71 miles per hour when it hit the other vehicle. The plaintiffs claim this makes the driver of the tractor-trailer liable due to recklessness.
