A California jury awarded $36.48 million to an Indian couple who was injured in a trucking accident during a 2010 visit to the state.

Jaishree and Prakash Sheth were traveling on Interstate 10 on March 26, 2010, when a big-rig truck tried to pass their Toyota Camry. Instead, the truck crashed into them, causing their car to spin out of control and hit the median and another vehicle before swerving across the freeway, according to the Associated Press. The car accident left Jaishree Sheth paralyzed and she now requires 24-hour attendant care.

The plaintiffs claimed that the driver of the Schneider National truck had been taking turns with his wife driving for 82 hours straight, according to the AP.
