Unilever Sued Over Suave Product
Unilever PLC. faces a class action product liability lawsuit over one of its products by consumers who claim the company deceived consumers about a treatment that they say causes major unwanted hair loss.
Lead plaintiffs Angel Lake and Sidney Reid claim they purchased Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion 30 Day Smoothing Kit to help control frizz and curl in their hair, according to Law360 (subscription required). After using the product for a short period, they allege that their hair began to melt together and fall out, even though they carefully followed the instructions that came with the product.
The complaint further states that the company misled the public by claiming the product did not contain formaldehyde, when it contained a chemical that is known to release formaldehyde during use, according to Law360.
The plaintiffs also allege that the company tried to hide and downplay hundreds of similar complaints from consumers.
The smoothing kit was recalled several months after complaints began to surface on the Internet, according to Law360.
