Vermont First State to Ban Fracking

Its official! Vermont has become the first state to ban hydraulic fracturing or fracking.

Vermont Governor Peter Shulman recently signed the bill, which bans the controversial drilling method. He also suggested the process contaminates groundwater and that the science behind it is “uncertain at best,” according to CNN.

Shulman also said that he hopes other states will follow suit.

This decision comes as the government recently issued new rules for fracking on public lands.

Fracking involves drilling deep wells and injecting water to release natural gas deposits in between its layers.
