Vibram Sued for False Claims Over Running Shoes

Vibram FiveFingers is being sued in a class action consumer fraud lawsuit for its claims that its trendy “barefoot” running shoes can improve the health of runners when they may increase the risk of injury instead.

Lead plaintiff Ali Savafi says that Vibram’s claims that its shoes improve posture, prevent injury, and promote spine alignment are false and deceptive, according to Courthouse News.

The consumer fraud lawsuits states, “Unbeknownst to consumers, defendants' health benefit claims are false and deceptive because FiveFingers are not proven to provide any of the health benefits beyond what conventional running shoes provide."

A University of Wisconsin study found that runners may have to change their way of running when switching to the company’s shoes, which may result in an “injury-fraught regimen,” according to Courthouse News.

The plaintiffs seek damages for violations of the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, unfair competition, and breach of express warranty.
