World Cerebral Palsy Day Held September 4

September 4 marked the first  that World Cerebral Palsy Day, a worldwide holiday meant to raise awareness regarding the 17 million people born with life-altering birth injury, was aknowledged and celebrated across the globe.

Following this year's celebration, the holiday will now be held on the first Tuesday of September for years to come.

“World CP Day is an exciting world first, not only to engage the CP community to create innovative ideas that could change their world but also to engage inventors, developers, innovation companies, universities or even people with disabilities who are budding inventors to create products and solutions to the many ideas submitted,” said Marcus Blease, the general manager of Fundraising & Marketing from Cerebral Palsy Alliance in Australia.

the idea of World Cerebral Palsy Day is not limited only to the single day it is marked on the calender every year. Beginning on August 1, families with loved ones are encouraged to visit worldcpday.org and suggest ways that they think the lives of cerebral palsy patients could be improved. Throughout the month of September, the ideas that had been posted will be displayed for visitors to see and “vote for the concepts that will have the greatest impact on people’s lives.”

The most popular ideas will be collected by the end of the month and given to a group of social activists, inventors, researchers, and innovators who will work with the World Cerebral Palsy Day Panel to make some of the concepts a reality. By World Cerebral Palsy Day on September 3, 2013, the panel hopes to officially launch these products so they can be used by cerebral palsy patients for the original helpful reasons they were intended for.
