Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Against FL Hospital

The parents of a young girl who died after having a routine tonsillectomy have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Florida hospital that performed the procedure.

Carly Jane Liptak’s parents filed their complaint against the Mease Countryside Hospital and the doctors that treated her claiming that a number of medical mistakes and a potent mix of drugs caused her death, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Carly went into surgery on August 13, 2010. A few minutes after surgery began, she developed pulmonary edema, which was caused by excess fluid in the lungs and led to her going into cardiac arrest, according to the Tampa Bay Times. She passed away two days after the procedure.

The wrongful death lawsuit alleges that the doctors who performed the surgery insisted on following through with the procedure despite warning signs. The complaint also says that the drugs doctors gave Carly were questionable for a child her age and that the powerful combination led her to essentially drown in her own fluids. The suit further alleges that efforts to revive Carly were inadequate.
