The Sun Continues to Shine on Solar Despite Government Tariff Change

Solar panel energy continues to be the fastest growing renewal energy source in the UK and the Government’s announcement last year of reductions to FIT payments were met at the time with despair by both the solar industry and consumers.

However, is all as it seems?

Whilst any decrease in Tariff is not welcomed, the latest announcement by the Government reported that £460 million had been set aside to cover new installations and as quoted by Climate Change Minister Greg Barker, their “new plans will see almost two and a half times more installations than originally projected by 2015”.

According to analysis by Unicredit, a Europe-wide banking organisation, energy bills likely to double over the next five years from £1,000 to £2,000 per year and solar power installations continue to be viewed as being the primary sustainable other power source as a solution to these expected rises.

It is widely agreed that the halving of the Feed in Tariff (FIT) payments by the Government is having an effect on the confidence of the solar industry.  Nonetheless, it would appear only some operators are being affected by these changes.

“Solar Energy Savings Ltd as the largest domestic PV solar company in the UK ensured a complete business re-modelling in anticipation of the proposed changes.  This has meant the continued growth of our company and we have seen a 15% increase in our orders since the FIT decrease announcement”, said Stephen Rievaulx Wilson, Managing Director of UK Solar installation company, Solar Energy Savings Ltd whose head office is in Manchester.

He continued, “Solar is an abundant and renewable resource which allows consumers to have a financially and environmentally sounds solution for their energy needs and the Government needs to ensure it gives clear guidance and agreements as soon as possible.  In the meantime, we ensure our business model is flexible and continue to actively negotiating with suppliers to ensure the best products for our customers at the best prices.”

Offering a complete service encompassing design, supply and installation throughout the UK, Solar Energy Savings Ltd employ just less than 900 members of staff and recently announced a £150,000 investment in compliance and customer service systems to support projected growth plans.

Fuel consumption increases, an environmental requirement to improve energy consumption levels worldwide, and the need to support clean, green energy as a sustainable substitute has never been more pressing and it would appear the sun might not yet be set on solar power.
