SONY EXPANDS HIGH RESOLUTION AUDIO LINE WITH NEW PORTABLE DAC/AMPLIFIER AND ES SERIES HIGH-RES MUSIC PLAYER
Toronto, Nov. 4, 2013 – Sony Canada today extended its new line of High-Resolution Audio products by introducing the PHA-2 portable headphone DAC/amplifier and HAP-Z1ES Hi-Res Music Player, HAP-S1 HDD Audio Player, and UDA-1 USB DAC Amplifier. All products offer superior sound reproduction and have been specifically designed to support the latest high-resolution music sources.

Sony PHA-2 High-Res Portable DAC/Amplifier
The new PHA-2 portable headphone amplifier was conceived to deliver superior sound reproduction from a variety of audio sources and is the first portable DAC/amplifier to be compatible with virtually every high-resolution digital file format, including up to 192 kHz/24-bit PCM and both DSD (2.8MHz) and Double DSD (5.6MHz). Listeners can also enjoy upgraded sound quality with MP3 files and other music sources.
It features a variety of advanced technologies, including such refinements as an Asynchronous Transport Mode which utilizes a dedicated signal generator to reduce timing errors for more accurate, jitter-free converter performance. It also incorporates a high precision D/A converter, along with such devices as a custom headphone amplifier IC with high slew rate, ultra-low distortion operation; OCL (output capacitor-less) current feedback architecture; plus a dual power supply operation for more stable and accurate reproduction.
All of these select components are enclosed in a durable aluminum chassis which is fully protected from external interference. The PHA-2 headphone amplifier also has a variable gain headphone input that supports a wide range of impedances; as well as Zinc die-cast bumpers to protect the volume control and headphone connector from external shock and vibration.
The PHA-2 can be easily connected to both PC and Mac® computers via its USB 2.0 interface, and also includes a dedicated digital input for iPod®, iPhone® and iPad® products. Other portable audio sources such as Android™ smartphones and digital music players can be connected via the analog audio input. The PHA-2 comes with a built-in Lithium-ion battery which runs up to 6.5 hours with a digital connection and up to 17 hours with an analog connection on a single charge.
Sony HAP-Z1ES Hi-Res Music Player
The new HAP-Z1ES Hi-Res Music Player is Hi-Res audio compatible (DSD 5.6MHz, 192kHz/24 bit) and converts all audio data into DSD for high-quality sound reproduction with the DSD Re-Mastering Engine. Offering newly developed high-quality audio technologies including analog FIR filter for ideal D/A conversion, low phase noise master clock, independent analog/digital large-volume twin transformer and high-precision/rigidity FB chassis, the HAP-Z1ES comes with built-in Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11b/g/n compatible), internal 1TB HDD (expandable via USB HDD) and 4.3-inch colour LCD display.
Sony HAP-S1 HDD Audio Player
The new HAP-S1 HDD Audio Player is compact and hi-Res audio compatible (DSD 5.6MHz, 192kHz/24 bit) equipped with superior high-quality sound reproduction of compressed audio files using DSEE technology. Boasting 40Wx2 analog amplifiers, newly developed high-quality audio technology with analog FIR filter for ideal D/A conversion, and a 3mm-thick aluminum panel, the HAP-S1 comes in a compact size for easy layout in private space (W265mmxH80mmxD265mm). Comes with built-in Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11b/g/n compatible), internal 500GB HDD (expandable via USB HDD) and 4.3-inch color LCD display.
Sony UDA-1 USB DAC Amplifier
The new UDA-1 USB DAC with internal amplifier (size: 225mm) is hi-res audio compatible (DSD 5.6MHz, 192kHz/32 bit) offering superior high-quality sound reproduction of compressed audio files using DSEE. Equipped with 20Wx2 analog amplifiers, newly developed high-quality audio technology with analog FIR filter for ideal D/A conversion and 3mm-thick aluminum panel, the UDA-1 comes in a compact size for easy layout around desktop computers (W225mmxH74mmxD213mm). Internal headphone amplifier included with music playback option via smartphones through USB A input.
SS-HA1 and SS-HA3 Book Shelf Speaker Systems
The SS-HA1 and SS-HA3 Book Shelf Speaker Systems both come with the Double Super Tweeter to realistically reproduce natural Hi-Res audio in a wide sound field. Both models include the 25mm soft-dome tweeter (HA1), 130mm MRC woofer, ideal diffraction-suppression baffle shape, banana plug compatible binding post, and high-rigidity aluminum cabinet casing.

The PHA-2 portable headphones amplifier will be available in March 2014 for $599.99 at Sony Stores (store.sony.ca) and participating retailers across Canada. The HAP-Z1ES Hi-Res Music Player ($1,999.99), HAP-S1 Compact Hi-Res HDD Audio Player ($999.99) and UDA-1 USB DAC with Internal Amplifier ($699.99) will be available from January at Sony Stores (store.sony.ca) and participating retailers across Canada.
