Solent Acoustics, the university’s professional consultancy for all areas of sound and noise, is holding a conference for professionals on 'Acoustics in the Built Environment', at Southampton Solent on Friday 4 April 2014.

Following on from the success of last year's conference 'Noise in Music and Entertainment', this one-day event will be of interest to professionals in the built environment sector. It will cover acoustic issues faced by building projects, from design to construction.

The event - which will involve presentations from prominent professionals, talks and Q&A sessions with industry experts - will be of particular interest to acousticians, architects, architectural technologists, building control officers, chartered surveyors, environmental health officers, health and safety officers and site managers.

Subjects covered will include:

  • What makes a building fail on pre-completion testing and how to prevent it.
  • Legislative requirements and issues for unusual builds (non-domestic issues, listed buildings, 'common' spaces in apartment buildings)
  • Noise and noise monitoring in construction and demolition sites.
  • Acoustic issues in specialist and non-domestic buildings (Aesthetics, Acoustic Privacy, Technological Solutions).
  • The free conference offers a CPD certification for the event. There will also be a trade show running alongside the event with a range of exhibitors of acoustics measurement equipment and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).

Registration includes lunch, coffee and a conference pack. You can register online
