Southampton Solent University’s Students’ Union Diner wins national ‘U Dine Award 2014’ in the ‘Bar Concept’ category for student hospitality and menu innovation.

The ‘U Dine Awards’ were created by the Menu Innovation Network as part of their ‘Student Hospitality Experience Program’, in order to recognise and reward those universities that are embracing and delivering the latest street food trends to their students.

With its focus on offering students gourmet food options at student prices, menu items at the SU Diner include: a vast gourmet burger and hot dog range; extensive breakfast menu; healthy menu options supported by the University’s ‘Health Spark’ campaign; and ‘Wild Burgers’, made from meats such as crocodile, ostrich, reindeer and buffalo.

Solent Students’ Union President, Christina Stone, says: “We are continually pushing to improve the dining experience at Solent SU by bucking the national trend. This award recognises these changes and the hard work done by our chef and his team, and we are hugely proud of their achievement”.

As part of the award, Head Chef at the SU Diner Neil Baker has won the opportunity to go on a four day tour of New York, to explore a host of new food concepts relevant to the student sector.

The trip will help Solent Students’ Union continue to offer a dining experience that isn’t available in other students’ unions around the country.
