Best of degree show opens at Showcase
Members of the public will have a second chance to see some of finest work from graduating students studying on Southampton Solent’s creative courses at the University’s Showcase gallery this summer.
The exhibition is entitled ‘Happy Sad’, to reflect some of the themes of the work and to celebrate the students’ time at the University.
All the pieces have already featured in the BA (Hons) Degree shows for 2014 and include work from fine artists, photographers, illustrators, graphic artists and fashion students from a variety of disciplines.
Kate Maple, Curator of Solent Showcase, says: “It has been difficult to choose from all the fantastic work on display at this year’s degree shows but I am really pleased with the final selection.
“I think the public will get a flavour of the breadth, variety and skill shown by the students. The work is truly breathtaking and wouldn’t be out of place in any London gallery,” she continues.
The student artists being exhibited are: Emily Amesbury, Luke Baker, Giovanna Balivo, Nik Birkemeyer, Laura Carroll, David Cantrill, Craig Coull, Sophia Foot, Louis Goddard, Oliver Hall, Thomas Storm Hansen, Amber Henry, Laura Hunt, David Jones, Cory Labrosse, Alison Lashly, Amanda Leslau, Jody McCreery, Demi Haskell Mills, Emily Murphy, Rebecca Needham, Jade Phillips, Ashleigh Prime, Selina Quach, Sophie Reynard, Kristin Rian, Lizzie Robinson, Elizabeth Sherwin, Emma Simpson, Jack Snelgar, Ro Tomlin-Wills and Grace Williams.
The pieces have all been chosen from the following BA (Hons) degree shows: Fashion Photography, Fashion Styling, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Make-up and Hair Design and Photography.
The exhibition will run from 12 July – 16 August 2014 (with a preview on Friday 11 July, 6-8pm), at Solent Showcase, Sir James Matthews Building, Above Bar, Southampton, SO14 7NN
The gallery space is open Monday-Friday, 11am to 6pm.
For access please use the city centre car parks. Admission is free.
