Starting this week, four diverse pieces of theatre are being showcased at Southampton Solent University as third-year students unveil their work for the final time.

At the beginning of the year the BA (Hons) Performance students were given a stimulus  to work from which was the Oscar-winning film ‘La Maison en Petits Cubes’, by the Japanese animator Kunio Kato.

Working in groups of four, they could use an existing play or devise their own work in theatre, musical theatre, dance or experimental performance.

Each play will debut over four different evenings. On Thursday 15 May and Friday 16 May 2014 is ‘Two’, a play by Jim Cartwright and  a devised piece called ‘Delirium’.

‘The Final Chosen’ based on a screenplay from the 2009 film Exam,  and a devised piece called ‘Tied’, about the pressure to be perfect in contemporary society, is on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 May 2014.

Matt Fletcher, Course Leader of the BA (Hons) Performance course said: “The performances are the culmination of three years of work and it is exciting to see these students showcasing their skills.

“They will be demonstrating their professional potential and show how well they are equipped to work in the cut-throat environment of the professional performing arts.”

All the performances are in  Studio Solent  (Room JM315), the Sir John Everett Millais building, East Park Terrace SO14 0YN and are open to the general public. All performances begin at  6.00pm.  Tickets are £5 and £3 for concessions.

Thomas Goody, one of the performers in Delirium, said: “We get the opportunity to demonstrate all the different modules we have learnt in one final piece, it’s a bit scary but also really exciting and I am sure the audiences will be impressed with the work.”
