Local Law expert awarded honorary degree
Southampton-based lawyer Jojar Heera Singh Taak received an honorary degree of Master of Laws from Southampton Solent University today (Wednesday 20 November), in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the local community.
Solent graduate, Jojar Singh, is Head of Financial Litigation at Lawcomm Solicitors. He had a passion to become a lawyer and help people and his local community, from an early age. After attending Richard Taunton’s college Jojar completed his LLB (Hons) Law with Business degree at Southampton Solent University in 2003 and qualified as a solicitor in 2009.
Jojar started life as a property lawyer, helping his client’s to buy and sell property. He is currently Head of the financial litigation department for his firm and has recovered millions of pounds worth of compensation for his clients. Since the recession hit in 2008 he has helped many people and businesses get through the tough economic climate through his work.
A champion of the region’s business community, he is chairman of the Hampshire Asian Network, a non-executive director at the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Chilworth Business Network and plays a supportive role within local colleges, the Crown Prosecution Service and works voluntarily assisting other organisations including the Royal Navy.
Jojar is also CEO and Founder of Growthcube Investments, a boutique real estate company that assists investors to create wealth through real estate in India. Growthcube is actively involved in projects in India and has offices in London, Mumbai and Pune.
On receiving his honorary degree, Jojar Singh said: “My grandparents came to the UK with just a small bag of clothes and only a few decades later I’m here, proudly accepting this honorary Master of Laws degree from Southampton Solent University.
Jojar added, “I believe the success you make in life, is through the people that you meet on your journey – I met many exceptional people during my time at Solent. Today as a lawyer, entrepreneur and director of the local Chamber of Commerce, the university still has a special place in my heart.”
The university awards honorary degrees to academics and professionals who have made an outstanding contribution in their field of expertise during its annual graduation ceremonies which take place at Southampton Guildhall from 18-22 November 2013.
More than 2500 students are graduating from Southampton Solent University with degrees and professional qualifications in subject areas ranging from journalism to sport science, fashion to yacht-design, and business management to TV and film production.
