New student quiz show gets the QT from QI creator
A new inter-college television quiz show, devised and produced by students from Southampton Solent, got the thumbs up from QI creator, John Lloyd, during a recent visit to the University.
John , who was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Media from the University in 2012, met with television production students to discuss the format and execution of High Stakes - a seven episode inter-college quiz show that is thought to be a television first.
Having used his expertise to produce enduring broadcast formats - including Not the Nine o’Clock News, Spitting Image and Blackadder - John was keen to get a closer look at the studio set up at Solent and offer advice to the student production team working on the new quiz show.
John said, “It was excellent to meet the students involved in the project and to have a look around the state-of-the-art media facilities. Solent offers excellent opportunities for young talent to gain vital experience in a real-world learning environment.”
Due to start this week, the show will be filmed in the University’s state-of-the-art HD TV studio. Described as Eggheads meets Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the general knowledge quiz show will feature a selection of colleges from around the region including, Bitterne Park Sixth Form, Fareham College, Isle of Wight Sixth Form and Queen Margaret College, Basingstoke.
Team supporters from the colleges will have the opportunity to be part of the studio audience, watch the set-up of the studio and ask questions about the filming and production processes.
Once completed, the television production students aim to pitch the programme to professional companies and television networks.
