Solent brings International Conference on Manufacturing Research to Southampton

Manufacturing engineering researchers from across the globe will be sharing a meeting of minds at the 12th annual International Conference on Manufacturing Research (ICMR 2014), proudly hosted by Southampton Solent University from 9–11 September 2014.

Solent University’s ICMR 2014 event will enable global academic and industry researchers to network and engage in debate on academic research papers on various topics of manufacturing engineering such as advanced manufacturing technologies, laser processing, robotics and automation, manufacturing management and product development.

Manufacturing contributes £6.7tr to the global economy and UK manufacturing is strong with the UK currently the 11th largest manufacturing nation in the world. Manufacturing makes up 11% of UK GVA and 54% of UK exports and directly employs 2.6 million people.

Conference delegates will have the opportunity to hear keynote presentations by internationally renowned researchers and industry thought leaders including: Prof Sir David N Payne CBE FRS FREng, Professor of Optoelectronics at University of Southampton; Gordon Wakeford, Managing Director, Siemens Infrastructure and Cities; Mike Wilson, Chairman BARA (British Automation and Robotics Association) and Graham Lodge, Director Boat Development at Sunseeker International Ltd.

In addition, 44 technical papers will be presented by researchers from across the world on various topics of manufacturing engineering, product development and product and service engineering.

Dr Fayyaz Rehman, Associate Professor in Southampton Solent University’s Maritime and Technology Faculty commented, “It’s a great honour for the University to host this year’s prestigious annual International Conference on Manufacturing Research. With the accelerating globalisation of manufacturing in the 21st century, the urgent need to keep pace has produced rapid advancements in manufacturing technologies, research and expertise in manufacturing engineering.

Dr Rehman continues, “ICMR 2014 will bring together practical and theoretical knowledge from academia and industry across the world. We’re really excited to play an active role in this global knowledge exchange and discussion on emerging trends and new challenges in all aspects of product development, manufacturing, product and service engineering.”
