In support of National Apprenticeship Week, Southampton Solent University is hosting a series of events on Wednesday 5 March, to raise awareness of apprenticeships and showcase the positive impact they have on young people, employers and the economy.

From 8.00-10.00am, local employers are invited to a free breakfast seminar raising awareness of the business benefits of apprenticeships and to encourage local employers to pledge apprenticeships and increase opportunities within the region.

Guest speakers will include Andy Tickner, Skills Manager – Skills, Regeneration and Partnerships at Southampton City Council; Ian Smith, Employer Account Manager at the National Apprenticeship Service; and Professor John Chudley, Dean of the Faculty of Maritime and Technology at Solent University.

Businesses will also be able to find out how to develop their workforce through higher apprenticeships, network and sign up for more information on city initiatives.

There are a limited number of spaces still available. Any employers wishing to register can book online or email karen.cove@solent.ac.uk.

Students from local schools and colleges will be receiving information and guidance on apprenticeships at a series of events throughout the day. As well as expert advice and details of local opportunities, there will be presentations about the different apprenticeship routes available and how they can lead to higher education.

From 4.30-6.30pm, parents and carers will have the opportunity to find about the benefit of apprenticeships, speak to representatives from the national Apprenticeship Service and find out about local opportunities.
These FREE events will take place at the University’s conference Southampton Solent University Conference Centre157-187 Above Bar St, Southampton SO14 7NN.

National Apprenticeship Week 2014 is taking place from 3–7 March. Now in its seventh year, National Apprenticeship Week aims to raise awareness among employers, individuals, teachers and parents.
