As the 2013/14 academic year draws to a close, final-year students at one of the most voted creative universities Southampton Solent University are busy putting their talent on public display in a series of degree showcases; covering fashion, engineering, computing, art, photography, product design, computer/video games and animation!

During April, BA (Hons) Fashion Management with Marketing students brought high fashion to the city, with Solent Fashion Day '14 – an industry conference followed by a catwalk fashion show. In May, BA (Hons) Animation students showcased their final-year projects on the big screen at their degree show premiere.

Employers, members of the public, parents, staff and peers are now invited to enjoy the work and discover new talent at the following exhibitions and events:

Southampton Solent Fashion Show
When: Saturday 7 June
Where: The Point, Leigh Road, Eastleigh, Hampshire, SO50 9DE
Time: 6.30-9pm
Tickets: £6 each
Degree Course: BA (Hons) Fashion, BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion and Communication

30 collections from BA (Hons) Fashion students of womenswear, menswear and plus-size collections, will take to the catwalk; organised by final-year students on the BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion and Communication degree course.

The WRTI Technology and Innovation Awards
When: Wednesday 11 June
Where: Solent Conference Centre, 157-187 Above Bar St, Southampton, SO14 7NN
Time: 5.30-7.30pm
Degree Courses: BEng and BSc (Hons) Electronic Engineering, BSc (Hons) Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, BEng (Hons) Mechanical Design, BSc (Hons) Computer Network Management, BSc (Hons) Computer Systems and Networks, BSc (Hons) Web Design

Top projects from final-year students are nominated for the awards, with winners announced at the event. Cash prizes of £250 will be awarded for the most innovative and commercial projects, in two categories. This year’s entries include a web-based driving school system, a prototype of a portable refrigeration system and methods of reducing energy consumption for households using electronic equipment, among many others. Businesses wishing to attend the event should email mt.degreeshow@solent.ac.uk

Art exhibition

The degree show exhibition brings together exciting works of upcoming artists, celebrating the completion of their three years study at Southampton Solent University and their emergence into their professional artistic careers. Final-year Illustration students will also have the chance to showcase their work at The Coningsby Gallery in London from 28 July – 2 August.

Photography exhibition “Emerge”
When: Friday 13 June (private viewing) - 20 June
Where: Media Academy, Level 0, John Millais Building, East Park Terrace
Times: 13 June 6pm-9pm; 16-20 June 10am-5pm
Degree Courses: BA (Hons) Photography

Solent’s Photography course will exhibit final-year students’ work in the newly refurbished Media Academy from 13 – 20 June. Final-year photography students will also have the chance to showcase their work at The Print Space in London from 5 – 13 June.

The Art of Engineering
When: Friday 13 June (private viewing) – 19 June
Where: Media Academy, Level 0, John Millais Building, East Park Terrace

Degree Courses: BA (Hons) Product Design

The meeting of art and engineering enables our students to balance the study of aesthetics with an understanding of materials and manufacturing in order to create desirable consumer products; an innovative exhibition of physical models, computer models, presentation boards and sketch books.

Computer and Video Games, Animation
When: Friday 13 June (private viewing) – 19 June
Where: Media Academy, Level 0, John Millais Building, East Park Terrace
Times: 13 June 6pm-9pm; 14-19 June 10am-5pm
Degree Courses: BA (Hons) Animation, BA (Hons) Computer and Video Games

Future games developers and animators will be showcasing their final projects before embarking on careers in this growing sector. Play our computer and video games and watch this year's show reel of animations plus related artwork.
