Palma de Mallorca, 1st September 2008. In regards to the letter published today by two national daily newspapers, signed anonymously by "employees of Spanair" and sent to the Spanish president, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, the Company wishes to clarify as follows:
• Spanair has not encouraged neither approved the release of this letter nor was aware of this initiative and its content, therefore it do not represent the official position of the Company.
• From the very first moment of the tragic accident of August 20th, Spanair established all lines of communication and cooperation with all authorities and at all levels. This cooperation has resulted in positive actions focused on caring for the victims and their families as well as in supporting the ongoing processes of judicial and technical investigations.
• The company has always recognised the involvement of all relevant authorities involved in the management of the emergency, including different institutions and volunteer organizations, and it wishes to express once again its gratitude for their dedication and professionalism in caring for the victims, the injured and their families.
• Spanair will abstain from make any further comments on the events surrounding flight JK5022, as it understands that it is a matter for the competent authorities, both in judicial and technical investigation terms.
