A marathon a day to keep the bullies away. New fundraising challenge supported by EtchRock

With anti-bullying week starting on 16th November, EtchRock, the sports networking platform, has teamed up with The 401 Challenge to help raise awareness not only for this challenge, but also for anti-bullying causes.

The 401 Challenge is aptly named, as runner Ben Smith plans to run a record breaking 401 Marathons in 401 consecutive days (a total of 10,506.2 miles) across the UK for charities Kidscape and Stonewall.

33 year old Ben has set himself a mammoth target of raising £250k across these two charities, as well as campaigning himself in local schools to raise awareness of bullying in the UK.

In support of Ben’s 401 Challenge, the 401 team have set up a Virtual Challenge called 'The 401 Run with Ben Challenge'. Here participants, from anywhere in the world, can log miles from their runs, donate to the 401 Challenge, see where they stack on the community miles leader board and get social by sharing their training on Facebook and Twitter.

Hundreds of people have already been inspired to run with Ben since the beginning of the challenge, from as little as 1 mile to the complete 26.2. Not everyone has time or access to run in person with him on a given day, so the virtual 401 Challenge enables the whole running community (and aspiring runners) to join him at a time and place that suits them, and to join thousands of other people to help bring about change.

Tolu Osinnowo from the 401 team explains: “We‘re encouraging everyone to use the hashtag #401RunwithBen to help spread awareness for Ben’s challenge and his anti-bullying campaign.

"In the spirit of the 401 Challenge, we’d love our community to try and reach the mammoth goal of 401,000 miles to show that we all stand united against bullying and are with Ben every step of the way!”
