New Traditional Japanese Sword School opens in Thanet

A new Japanese sword school (Nishimon Dojo) has opened at the St Georges School, Broadstairs and is looking for new members who wish to improve themselves, both physically and mentally through the concept of Tanren - forging the spirit through martial practice.

We are a new Dojo which teaches a number of historical Japanese Sword Arts. These arts are over 500 years old and have been passed down from the battlefields of ancient Japan to the modern Dojos around the World today.

We study:

•           Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu - the sword style of Miyamoto Musashi

•           Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu - the 500 year old Sword style

•           Eishin Ryu Battoho - the sword art of the Imperial Japanese Navy

These are sword arts using steel blunt or wooden swords. Most practice has no direct practical self defence application (as we don’t carry swords like the samurai used to) but is an excellent way to improve fitness, flexibility, mental acuity, encourage confidence and self discipline.

We welcome adults from the age of 18 and over. We are fully insured and licensed instructors and have direct teaching connections to the styles of swordsmanship we practice. These are old Koryu styles of Japanese swordsmanship.

Why not come and try it? The first lesson is free! We practice every Tuesday night from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. There are also opportunities to attend workshops and seminars around the World.
