Former England Rugby Union Star & Colleagues take on the Sahara in Marathon Des Sables

Leading Compression wear company SKINS will be providing technical kit support to former England Rugby Union international David Barnes and two colleagues as they attempt to complete the most demanding foot race in the world and raise over £100,000 for their chosen charities.

Barnes, 37, along with former Parachute Regiment Commissioned Officer, Martin Hewitt, 33 and wealth manager, Stuart Doughty, 47, who specialises in financial planning for personal injury victims, will fight the rigours of a rugged landscape, intense heat and inevitable fatigue during the Marathon Des Sables, a multi-stage adventure across 250km of the Sahara Desert where temperatures will reach around 50°C.

The money raised will be shared amongst three charities that are significant to each of the three group members - Help for Heroes, Bath Rugby Foundation and the rugby players charity, Restart.

During the challenge which begins with the first of 6 gruelling stages on April 6th, Martin, David and Stuart will be wearing the new SKINSgarment, Coldblack®’ which combines the most advanced compression properties on the market with a technology offering double sun protection to stay up to 5°C cooler. The Coldblack® technology reduces the amount of heat absorption normally associated with dark colours by reflecting both visible and invisible rays of sunlight. Coldblack® continues to offer the traditional benefits of SKINScompression wear which is scientifically proven to enhance performance while active and crucially for the trio, accelerate recovery after exercise.

SKINS products have been designed to compress muscle groups to trigger acceleration in blood flow, which means that the team will benefit from increased oxygen to their working muscles - resulting in an enhanced performance and faster recovery time.

SKINS' UK General Manager, David Ling said: Im full of admiration for the lads because this is one of the toughest events on the planet. Theyve been training hard and long for this and are determined to make it to the finish and at SKINS, were confident the new Coldblack® garments will help them in their quest.

Sponsorship of the trio is available at their sponsorship page: http://mds2014.com/charities/
