Foundation Funding For Sports Leaders UK

Sports Leaders UK has received substantial support from the Garfield Weston Foundation to help fund more than 100 Sports Leaders UK Outreach Centres, and a number of community partnership projects. The £100,000 donation will enable Sports Leaders UK to fund sports leadership training centres in disadvantaged communities. The centres provide open-access to a range of Sports Leaders UK awards and qualifications. The donation will specifically fund the Sports Leaders UK Foundation work in providing leadership training, skills and qualifications for young people. The Sports Leaders UK Foundation is working closely with employers, local authorities, and police and partner organisations to develop opportunities in education, work and volunteering. Linda Plowright, Chief Executive of Sports Leaders UK, said: “The Garfield Weston donation is a major boost to the newly-formed Sports Leaders UK Foundation. It will enable us to reach those young people that cannot currently access our training and qualifications, particularly those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds with the fewest life chances. We will be able to provide free courses so that they can experience the benefits of the training, achieve nationally recognised qualifications, and embark on a pathway to a positive life.” Sports Leaders UK is an independent charity that operates as an Awarding Body for nationally recognised sports leadership qualifications, and as a charitable Foundation to offer leadership training and personal growth opportunities to disadvantaged sectors of the community. It is self-funding, based on sales of educational materials, working in partnership with a range of other youth and sport agencies and seeking support from charitable foundations and commercial partners to extend the reach of its work. The Garfield Weston Foundation is a grant-giving charity established in 1958 by Willard Garfield Weston, the creator of Associated British Foods.
