Five young unemployed people have been offered a six month work placement with Sports Leaders UK, thanks to a grant from the Future Jobs Fund. Connor Hardy, Imade Owobu, Michael Wilkinson, Ben Criddle and Jacob Cox were recently appointed to the roles, which are based at Sports Leaders UK Outreach Centres in Bristol, Southwark, Nottingham, Manchester and Milton Keynes. The five young people, who are training to become Project Officers, have already met MPs, Lords and influential sports and leisure people when they attended the Sports Leaders UK House of Lords event in December. The Future Jobs Fund trainees also attended Sports Leaders UK Leaders for Life Conventions, where they met Sports Leaders and Tutors from Approved Assessment Centres across the UK. Operations Director at Sports Leaders UK, Michaela Hutchings said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for these young people to gain further skills and training, providing them with better prospects for future employment. “The Future Jobs Fund grant has enabled Sports Leaders UK to give these young people the opportunity to meet influential people and to work with the charity to help change the lives of others, through the delivery of sports leadership awards and qualifications.” Note to editors: Sports Leaders UK is a charity delivering sports leadership awards and qualifications to more than 200,000 people a year, through 4,000 schools, colleges, local authorities, prisons and young offender units. It acts as an Awarding Body providing nationally recognised qualifications, and has a Foundation to deliver free or subsidised courses in areas of greatest need.
