Step into Sport in Grantham

Central Technology and Sports College, Grantham and South West Lincolnshire School Sport Partnership is proud to be recognised as a Sports Leaders UK Outreach Centre. With the help of Sports Leaders UK, South West Lincolnshire School Sport Partnership is supporting schools and sports clubs to deliver high quality physical education and sport. School children and the local community in Grantham are benefiting from a range of Sports Leaders UK awards and qualifications delivered by the college and partnership. The college currently runs the Young Leader Award for every pupil at Key Stage 3, the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership at Key Stage 4, and the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership. The School Sport Partnership also delivers the Day Certificate in Sports Leadership and the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership to the local community. As part of the Government’s 5 hour PE and sport target, the South West Lincolnshire School Sports Partnership aim to offer access to a minimum of 2 hours PE and 1 hour sport within school. Currently 75% of pupils are accessing this offer, placing the partnership in fourth out of 450 school sport partnerships in the country. More than 160 parents have signed up to a programme, which will train them as sports volunteers and will play a vital part in achieving the 5 hour offer. Vincent Brittain, Partnership Development Manager, South West Lincolnshire School Sport Partnership said: “The Sports Leaders UK courses have been of real benefit to candidates, and have given many of them the confidence and organisational skills to volunteer in local schools. We are now able to run clubs that have not previously been able to offer, including cheeleading, multi-skills and dance. “As well as the success of the courses in schools, 2,000 young people within the local community have been involved in sports sessions and festivals that have either been led or assisted by parent volunteers. “Two of the candidates that completed the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership have recently completed a four day bikeability cycling proficiency tutor course and will be employed to deliver courses for the partnership to more than 300 pupils this summer.” Sports Leaders UK Public Relations Anne Compton T: 01908 689212 E: media@sportsleaders.org
