SquareTrade's drop test comparing the new iPad to the iPad 2 can be found here: http://youtu.be/OfbMlM4upsw

Their failure rate report essentially shows that iPad 2 damage is 3.5 times more likely than with the iPad 1. The report goes on to uncover numerous statistics, graphs and the most common culprits when it comes to damaging your iPad from drops while handling to child and pet-related damage.

Highlights of the data collected include:

  • 9.8% of iPad 2 owners reported a failure from accidental damage within the first 12 months, compared to only 2.8% of original iPad 1 owners
  • Because the rate of accidental damage tends to happen on a straight line basis, SquareTrade projects almost 20% of its iPad 2 tablet warranty holders to report accidental damages over 2 years, compared to 5.5% of iPad 1s
