SquareTrade reveal accident zones as research shows over half of iPhone accidents happen around the home

~ Almost 1 in 10 iPhone users have dropped phones in the toilet ~

London, 16 October 2012SquareTrade, the top-rated warranty service provider, released new research today showing that 51% of iPhone accidents happen around the home – most commonly in the kitchen. The study also revealed that unusual iPhone accidents are much more common than previously expected. In addition to the 9% of iPhone users who have experienced a toilet mishap, the research shows that 5% of users have put an iPhone in the washing machine and 6% of users have put their device on top of their car and then driven off.

SquareTrade’s device danger zone survey[1] revealed that the top five danger zones around the home for iPhones are:

  1. the kitchen (21% of accidents around the home happen here)
  2. the living room (17%)
  3. the bathroom (16%)
  4. the driveway (10%)
  5. the bedroom (8%)

“It seems these days we don’t go anywhere without being attached to our smartphones, checking the latest news, watching a video, or just making a call,” explained Vince Tseng, managing director of SquareTrade. “But if you are going to be attached to the hip by expensive devices like phones, it’s a habit that needs protection, even in the comfort of your own home.”
