Construction of the southern part of the main building of the Laakso Joint Hospital begins - EUR 174 million will be entered into SRV’s order backlog

SRV, Kiinteistöosakeyhtiö Laakson yhteissairaala (real estate company), the Laakson LATU consortium, the Unitas consortium and Granlund have signed a contract regarding the southern part of the main building of the Laakso Joint Hospital. The order is valued at about EUR 183 million, of which SRV’s share is approximately EUR 174 million. The contract will be entered into SRV’s order backlog for September, further increasing the company’s strong order backlog of collaborative projects.

The new contract is part of the Laakso Joint Hospital project, which is worth approximately EUR 800 million in total, and which is being recognised in SRV’s order backlog in stages between 2022 and 2030. After the order for the southern part of the main building that has just been placed, the orders entered into SRV's order backlog are worth a total of EUR 670 million.

The project will not tie up any of SRV’s equity, and is one of the collaborative business construction contracts that have been transferred to SRV’s order backlog this year after the projects’ development phases. SRV is also working on a number of other large-scale public contracts, such as the construction of an annex to the National Museum of Finland in Helsinki and the Sammontalo community centre in Lappeenranta.

“SRV is strong in collaborative construction and focuses on maintaining the high controllability level in all of its projects, which is reflected in the company’s occupational safety, customer satisfaction and achievement of budgeted margins. In a long-term project like this one, maintaining the controllability level is particularly important,” says Jouni Forsman, Senior Vice President, Business Premises at SRV. “Together with the end-users and alliance partners, we are working on a socially significant project. The development, planning and start-up of the main building with a total value of 449 million euros have progressed according to plan”, Forsman continues.

The main building of the Laakso Joint Hospital will measure around 95,000 square metres (gross) and the southern part which has now been ordered will have a floor area of about 40 000 square metres (gross). The construction of the southern part of the main building will begin in September 2024.

In a collaborative project, the representatives of end-users are closely involved

The personnel of HUS and the City of Helsinki’s Social Services, Health Care and Rescue Services Division play an important role in the project. They are working closely with the designers, builders and client. “Collaboration in the alliance has been smooth. We are one step closer to achieving the project’s mission, that is, building the best possible hospital for patients, customers, employees, research and education. During the development phase of the subproject for the southern part of the main building, the best solutions were found to meet qualitative and financial objectives,” says Marko Virtanen, Managing Director of Kiinteistöosakeyhtiö Laakson yhteissairaala (real estate company).
