SRV plans in collaboration with Stora Enso to undertake a unique wooden construction project in Finland. A proposal that a site in the Jätkäsaari district of Helsinki be reserved for SRV and Stora Enso Oyj was submitted today to the Real Estate Board of the City of Helsinki. Site of Planed Wood City includes office, hotel and commercial buildings. The first buildings are expected to be completed in 2013.

Special attention will be paid to solutions that improve energy efficiency in designing and constructing the buildings for the area. A high standard, internationally interesting and progressive plan for Wood City will be sought through an invitation-only design competition.

“Wood construction is increasing in Finland and we are interested in bringing our own expertise into this project. The project in Jätkäsaari features the first high wood element buildings in Finland and they will act as an indicator for industry’s future trends.  This project will also splendidly serve our goals for sustainable development” says SRV’s Senior Executive Vice President Timo Nieminen.

The reservation of SRV and Stora Enso totals approximately 27.000 square meters of floor and the buildings are planned to be constructed with Stora Enso’s new Urban MultiStorey™ wood construction concept. The aim is to create a world-class project in which engineering skills can be taught in a practical way and to develop wood architecture.
