SRV selected as the partner to develop the Garden Helsinki project

SRV has signed an agreement with Projekti GH Oy, which is responsible for developing the Garden Helsinki project, to develop a multipurpose arena and connected hotel, offices, car park and residential buildings in Töölö, Helsinki. The parties intend to agree on the project’s implementation phase when the development phase is complete and the prerequisites are in place for the start of construction. SRV built the world-class Nokia Arena in Tampere and is involved in the development phase of an arena project in the Turku’s rail yard district.

During the development phases of the Garden Helsinki project, SRV will work with the client on project development related to the site’s functionality, costs, timetable and technical constraints, among other things. The development phase aims to ensure the prerequisites for the successful implementation of the project and the achievement of the client’s objectives. When the prerequisites are in place, the client will decide to transition the project to the implementation phase. The value of the construction of the complex is currently estimated at EUR 800 million. Construction work on the Garden Helsinki arena complex is planned to begin in the spring of 2026. The project timetable will be specified in more detail during the development phase.

“We are delighted to work with Project GH Oy and the City of Helsinki to develop a new event hub in Töölö. We will bring our diverse experience in similar arena projects in Tampere and Turku. Nokia Arena, developed jointly by the City of Tampere and SRV, includes offices, hotel and apartments and has generated a sense of vitality and substantial economic activity in the city. It has also been shown to support the City of Tampere’s strategy and image as an international event city. We believe that Garden Helsinki will provide Helsinki with a similarly significant appeal, stimulation and competitiveness as a city of sports, culture and major events,” says Saku Sipola, President & CEO of SRV.

“I am sure that SRV’s construction professionals and expert designers can work effectively with the strong Garden Helsinki team to develop the project into more than just an ambitious plan, and our work will lead to the implementation of the Garden Helsinki project. Construction companies are naturally interested in large projects like this one. However, SRV’s collaborative approach and experience in arena construction were important factors when selecting a developer partner,” says Risto Seppo, who is responsible for development at Projekti GH.

Garden Helsinki is planned to be built on Nordenskiöldinkatu in Töölö. The masterplan designates the area as a place for events, culture, exercise and elite sports. The old Helsinki Ice Hall will become part of the new event centre, where the world’s most modern event arena will serve culture and sports enthusiasts all year round. In addition to the arena, the project area will include a park, apartments, a Scandic hotel, offices, a car park, basic commercial services and exercise facilities.
