SRV to build a multipurpose arena in Kouvola
SRV and the City of Kouvola have signed an agreement for the construction of a new multipurpose arena. The project will be implemented as a collaborative design-and-build contract, including both the design and construction of the arena. Construction work will commence in autumn 2026, and the multipurpose arena is scheduled for completion in spring 2028.
SRV’s share of the contract is approximately EUR 18 million, and it will be entered into the company’s order backlog for June 2026. The project supports SRV’s strategic objective of strengthening the company’s leading position in collaborative and other forms of contracting, in which the company is particularly strong in public sector projects.
The multipurpose arena will be built in Kouvola Sports Park. During the day, the facilities will be used for school sports and teaching, and in the evenings for sports clubs’ recreational activities and matches as well as various events. The project’s total scope is just over 7,000 square metres (gross).
The multipurpose arena will take the city’s competitive sports facilities to a new level. The arena will focus on ball sports, such as basketball, floorball and volleyball. The arena’s main hall will measure approximately 2,000 m² and is particularly well suited to ball sports. The second hall will measure approximately 1,000 m².
“The procurement process for the multipurpose arena has been long and thorough, but the good cooperation between the various parties has produced an excellent outcome. We have found a solution that will enable the functional objectives set for the project to be achieved within the agreed budget. I look forward to starting cooperation with SRV and to the project progressing to the implementation phase,” says Tuomas Taskula, Project Manager at the City of Kouvola.
SRV is also currently building a new building for the Marjoniemi comprehensive school in Kouvola for 840 children. The school building will be completed for the autumn term of 2028. SRV has previously built the multipurpose building in Inkeroinen, Kouvola, which was completed in spring 2025.
“We are delighted to be working with the City of Kouvola again. In this project, we can combine our experience from previous projects implemented in the area with our broad experience in the design and construction of multipurpose arenas and sports facilities,” says Kimmo Hyry, Unit Director at SRV.
SRV has previously implemented Nokia Arena in the centre of Tampere and Satama Arena, a wooden event centre in Kotka. The company is currently building the Hyvinkää Arena multipurpose arena. In addition, SRV is involved in the development phases of major arena projects planned for Helsinki, Turku and Oulu, as well as the Kokonniemi Sports Centre in Porvoo.
