SRV to implement a new building for child and adolescent psychiatry for TAYS
SRV and the Pirkanmaa wellbeing services county have signed an agreement for the implementation of a new building for child and adolescent psychiatry at TAYS Tampere University Hospital. The value of the contractor agreement for SRV is EUR 31.7 million (VAT 0%). The project will be recognised in SRV’s order backlog in January.
It will be carried out as a shared contract, with SRV serving as the principal and main contractor of the technical construction work. The project will begin with the demolition of Building Y on the plot of the new building immediately in January. The new building for child and adolescent psychiatry will open its doors in early 2028.
“SRV has robust experience in hospital construction – over the past decade, we’ve carried out hospital projects valued at a total of over two billion euros. The new building for child and adolescent psychiatry will be implemented by our top local professionals in hospital construction, who also have experience of a previous construction project for TAYS Central Hospital. The work will be carried out on an active hospital campus — we’ll thus pay special attention to working safely and in a way that doesn’t disrupt activities in the hospital area,” says Tero Karislahti, Regional Manager at SRV.
In the TAYS Central Hospital area, SRV has previously carried out the large-scale TAYS Front Yard project, which comprised the construction of three new buildings: a musculoskeletal centre, a vascular centre and a maternity unit (Building D), a hospital for children and adolescents (Building L) and the Heart Hospital (Building N). The total value of the project was over EUR 250 million. The work was completed in 2019. SRV is currently executing the large Laakso Joint Hospital project in Helsinki and Ohkola, and a new building at Jorvi Hospital in Espoo. Over the years, SRV has also implemented several important health and medical buildings, such as the Bridge Hospital, completed for HUS in 2022; the New Children’s Hospital and the Kalasatama Health and Well-being Centre, completed in 2018; and Central Finland Central Hospital Nova in 2021.
“We’re excited that the project is now moving ahead. It’s wonderful that this project is taking tangible shape after its long planning phase. We’re now closer to the day when child and adolescent psychiatry functions can move into functionally better premises. When carrying out new construction in a demanding hospital area, it’s a good idea to rely on a familiar and experienced partner. The construction of the new child and adolescent psychiatry building is also the first step in the modernisation of the oldest buildings in the TAYS Central Hospital area. The next phase will involve the construction of a new building for key hospital functions such as the Acuta on-call service, operating theatres, inpatient wards and outpatient clinics,” says Matias Seini, Construction Manager at Pirkanmaa wellbeing services county.
Once completed, the new building will house the child and adolescent psychiatry functions of Tampere University Hospital under one roof. This will result in smoother operations along with cost savings thanks to faster treatment processes. In addition, growth in demand has led to congestion, which the new building can ease. The building will feature state-of-the-art technology and methods for energy-efficiency and health, ensuring both effective treatment and safety.
