Tappara and Ilves reach agreement with Central Deck and Arena project, Lapland Hotels assumes lead responsibility for hotel, and Restamax for restaurant services
The first operator and cooperation agreements of the Tampere Central Deck and Arena project have been signed. Finnish Ice Hockey League teams Tappara and Ilves will play their home games in the new multipurpose arena on its completion, and Lapland Hotels will be responsible for operating the hotel to be included in the arena complex. In addition, an agreement was signed with Restamax on the multipurpose arena’s restaurant services.
“The multipurpose arena will be an all-year-round experience centre, flexibly serving events of different sizes. We are delighted to announce that we have signed agreements with Lapland Hotels on the operation of the hotel to be constructed in the arena complex and with Restamax on the provision of restaurant services. At the same time, we have also signed agreements with the local Finnish Ice Hockey League teams Tappara and Ilves from league season 2021–2022 onwards. In addition to top-class ice hockey, the arena will naturally also host many other sports as well as notable concerts, exhibitions and other events,” says SRV’s Timo Nieminen, Executive Vice President.
The Central Deck and Arena project, to be constructed right in the heart of Tampere, will connect the eastern and western sides of the city, and the area will form a new kind of hybrid block, combining housing, working premises and Finland’s largest, approximately 13,000-capacity, sports and events arena. In addition, the arena complex will also incorporate a hotel, restaurants and other leisure facilities, such as Veikkaus’ second casino, which will promote cooperation with various partners.
Final decisions on the implementation of the Central Deck and Arena are due to be made in the latter part of 2017 after state aid connected with the financing of the project and preliminary terms and conditions of agreement have been fulfilled. Preparatory construction work is already under way and actual construction is due to begin immediately after the investment decision is confirmed. The first phase consists of covering the southern railway yard with a deck, on which the arena, hotel and two tower buildings will be constructed. The second phase includes the building of a northern deck and three tower buildings. According to the present timetable, the entire complex would be completed in 2023.
