SSC Space partners with NorthBase in Finland to expand its global ground station network
The partnership enables the integration of the Muonio ground station in Finland into the global ground station network of SSC Space, strengthening coverage and capacity for satellite operations worldwide.
SSC Space, a leading global provider of advanced space services in ground segment, mission operations, science and launch, and NorthBase, a Finnish ground station operator, have entered a partnership aimed at expanding the SSC Space global ground station network.
The collaboration focuses on incorporating NorthBase’s Muonio ground station site at 68N in Finnish Lapland as a partner site within SSC Space’s network, enhancing service availability for both current and future satellite missions.
“The partnership supports our ambition to continuously strengthen our global ground station network through strategic collaborations. By working with NorthBase, we can extend our coverage further in the Nordic region and offer additional capacity to customers worldwide. At the same time, it is an important step in deepening Swedish-Finnish cooperation and strengthening Nordic space capabilities in a security context. In today’s environment, where space is increasingly driven by defense and resilience needs, this type of collaboration becomes even more relevant,” said Carl-Johan Linér, Interim President, Business Area Connect, SSC Space.
The addition of Muonio as a partner site is expected to provide increased flexibility for satellite operators, including opportunities to host antennas and utilize available capacity at the site. The collaboration also lays the foundation for future commercial agreements supporting a wide range of missions and customer needs.
The cooperation reflects the growing demand for resilient and scalable ground segment infrastructure as the number of satellite missions continues to increase globally. By combining their respective capabilities, SSC Space and NorthBase aim to support both commercial and institutional customers with reliable and efficient services.
“Working with SSC Space allows us to connect our infrastructure to their strong global network and broaden access to our capabilities. This collaboration creates new opportunities to support satellite missions with enhanced coverage and operational flexibility in the Nordic, European as well as global context,” said Dr. Tech. Tommi Rasila, Founder and CEO of NorthBase.
