SSM finalist with innovative proposal for new urban node in Sollentuna
In cooperation with ByggVesta, NCC and Studentbacken, SSM Holding AB (publ), Sweden’s leading developer of smart and affordable housing, is one of the finalists in a competition to develop a new urban node in Sollentuna. The land involved is the Kilen area in Helenelund, which is strategically located between Stockholm and Arlanda.
In 2016, Sollentuna municipality invited urban developers to participate in a competition to develop the Kilen area in Helenelund. The ambition is for the area to grow and enrich this part of the Stockholm region. Several suggestions on how the land could be used have been put forward and an evaluation has been carried out using the criteria that any development should take advantage of the area’s unique features in an innovative way, utilizing its location and accessibility, as well as the feasibility of the project.
SSM and its partners’ proposal, which is called Kilenelund, includes many different functions such as business premises for co-working spaces and incubators, housing and a marketplace with an indoor market. The buildings are of varying heights and the design includes internal passageways with green spaces. With an entrance to the south and a green socioduct connecting it to the Helenelund commuter train station, the proposed project is also close to the southern part of Kista.
“The idea behind this project is to create a vibrant area with people at the center. The pedestrian bridge is a distinctive symbol of the development. It is a lush crossing that promotes activity, the flow of people, social exchanges and ecosystem services in the area,” says Erik Lemaitre, Business Development Manager at SSM.
The planning process is expected to last between one and two years. Once the process has been completed, Sollentuna municipality will sign an agreement with one of the two finalists to proceed
to the next stage to develop the city plan.
