Bank Holiday Monday 30 August, 6pm – 11pm. Celebrate at St Martin’s with Argentine guitars, Latin American jazz and Piazzolla’s "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires" featuring Venezuelan virtuoso Giovanni Guzzo for the 200th anniversary of independence for Chile, Argentina and Bolivia.

Three Latin American concerts bring a touch of spice this summer to St Martin-in-the-Fields in a one day extravaganza. Sensational, multi-prize winning Rossi Pompilio Guitar Duo open with a taste of tango at 6pm. The prodigiously talented Daniela Rossi and Sebastian Pompilio perform works by Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos, Ponce, Granados and de Falla. At 7.45pm, London Concertante, one of the finest chamber ensembles in the country take the stage with hot young soloist Giovanni Guzzo for a performance of the Eight Seasons: four timeless concerti by Vivaldi and four from by the ‘Father of the Tango’ Piazzolla. This main event of the day marks the release of the ensemble’s latest critically acclaimed album Piazzolla and Beyond. Relax at 10pm for a late night treat when the David Gordon Trio fill St Martin’s with tunes from their latest album Speaks Latin. Featuring songs from all over Latin America with including Chick Corea favourites, the group offers a feast for lovers of jazz and Latin music. Make a day of it! The group has the rare ability to combine flexibility of instrumental grouping and consistently maintain superb artistic endeavour. With an enviable array of critical acclaim, a stunning selection of recordings on such prestigious labels as Chandos, Toccata Classics and Harmonia Mundi, and performances throughout the UK and Europe, London Concertante rightfully claims its position at the forefront of classical performers in the UK. Twenty three year old violinist Giovanni Guzzo is already making a name for himself on the international concert scene. Born in Venezuela to parents of Italian heritage, his Latin fervour and energy infuse his playing. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, he has performed as soloist in some of the most prestigious venues are the world in countries including Venezuela, USA, China, Japan, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and the UK with recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Duo Rossi Pompilio was formed in October 2005 when Daniela Rossi and Sebastian Pompilio decided to combine their passion for guitar playing forming what has already been hailed as one of the most promising duos to emerge in recent times. The Coming together of two such talented and already distinguished soloists attracted much attention and in December of that same year their first concert together brought them instant success and acclaim. Their first CD ‘Invierno porteno’ includes the Spanish composers Enrique Granados and Manuel de Falla as well as an arrangement of Piazzolla’s ‘Cuatro Estaciones Portenas’ and a virtuosic transcription of Bach’s ‘Partita II BWV 826’ for keyboard. Compositions have already been dedicated to the duo including ‘Aires Portenos’ by the Argentine composer Oscar Vidal. The David Gordon Trio’s music is by turns hauntingly beautiful, intensely lyrical and grotesquely humorous, sometimes all at once. David Gordon is a prize-winning composer, whose tunes have been published by Sher Music and Faber Music and he combines a classical, even baroque sensibility, with a searching, nuanced improvisational style. The trio’s repertoire focuses on original material by the band and also includes items as diverse as folk music from Venezuela, East European dance music and Celtic-tinged hits.
