Families are being invited to learn more about apprenticeship opportunities at a special event taking place Staffordshire University on Saturday 4 February

The Apprenticeships Fair is taking place in The Catalyst on the University’s Stoke-on-Trent campus to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2023 and showcase opportunities in the region.

Employers including Staffordshire Police, West Midlands Police, Rolls Royce, Capula, Promtek, UHNM will be exhibiting at the event alongside regional training providers Stoke-on-Trent College, Acorn training and Buxton and Leek College. The family event will also feature arts, crafts and food stalls.

Staffordshire University was among the first Higher Education Institutions in England to offer degree apprenticeships. It is now one of the largest, working with over 200 employers including BT, Merlin Entertainments, NHS, Police Forces, and Bentley Motors to deliver 20 different apprenticeships across a variety of industries.

Maighread Hegarty, Associate Dean of Apprenticeships, said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic route for anyone aged over 16 to gain on-the-job training while working towards a nationally recognised qualification. This allows you to ‘earn while you learn’ and opens doors to a range of career opportunities.

“In turn, employers develop a workforce of professionals equipped with skills for the future which has a positive impact on the whole region.

“Whether you are a school leaver or looking for a career change, our Apprenticeships Fair will be a great day out for the family while showcasing the wide range of apprenticeships on offer here in Staffordshire.”

The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2023 is #SkillsForLife and Staffordshire University will be hosting a range of other activities for both apprentices and employers. This includes an Apprenticeship Conference on Friday 10 February which will include a panel discussion exploring the future of apprenticeships.

Maighread added: “As a leading provider of apprenticeships it is important that Staffordshire University drives discussions around the development of the sector, from good practice to policy and pedagogical challenges.

“Our conference is an opportunity do this and we hope that apprenticeship training providers and employers in the region and beyond will benefit.”
