Staffordshire University and Rutgers University strengthen collaboration
Staffordshire University has signed of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rutgers University’s prestigious Miller Centre on Policing and Community Resilience.
It marks an important milestone in the developing relationship between the two universities and sets the stage for exciting academic collaborations.
Rutgers University is renowned as one of America's highest-ranked and most diverse public research universities. By forging this partnership, both Staffordshire University and Rutgers’ Miller Centre aim to share expertise and create opportunities for joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
Professor Kevin Hetherington, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Staffordshire University, said: "The collaboration with Rutgers University represents a significant step forward in our commitment to fostering global academic partnerships. We are excited about the potential for knowledge exchange, research collaboration, and staff development opportunities that this collaboration brings."
The proposed developments include exploring collaborative projects between the Miller Centre and the Staffordshire University's Institute of Policing. This partnership will offer chances to exchange best practices, enhance educational and training processes, and develop evidence-based solutions to challenges in the field of policing.
The Miller Centre is recognised for integrating research and evidence-based best practices into various aspects of policing, education, and training. The Centre’s mission aligns closely with Staffordshire University's Institute of Policing.

Miller Centre on Community Protection and Resilience
The Miller Centre on Community Protection and Resilience, engages in education and public service focused on protecting vulnerable communities. The Eagleton affiliated centre identifies and disseminates best practices, offers training workshops, consults on security and civil liberties, and undertakes research. The Miller Centre, a product of the combined efforts of the former Centres on Policing and Community Protection and Resilience, is composed of individuals with a broad range of experience in the public safety arena. Its mission is to integrate research and evidence-based best practices into police operations, violence reduction, problem-solving, community policing, education, training, and the development of criminal justice policy and practice. The Centre’s efforts and findings directly help public safety professionals and agencies, and community organizations more effectively protect and serve their communities.
