Gamers are being invited to check out a new Staffordshire University vodcast dedicated to one of the world’s fastest growing industries.

Level of Detail is a brand-new YouTube series hosted by the Games Development department. Recorded in the Esports Hub, the series will be linking up with a team of over 80 specialist games lecturers and some of the nearly 1500 games students at Staffordshire University.

Throughout the series, games development experts will be playing some of the most iconic computer games on a variety of platforms and inviting in industry guests to give their insights on a wide range of topics and disciplines.

In the debut episode, viewers can join Head of Games Development Professor Chris Headleand, Games Technical Designer David ‘Deej’ James and Concept Artist Rachel Alderson as they take a meander through the metaverse, while playing Fortnite.

They tackle big questions from what exactly the metaverse is to why games like Fortnite have developed into such a global success.

Chris said: “The games community at Staffs Uni is world renowned for its talent, educational innovation, and impressive portfolio of industry collaborations. We are passionate about making games and Level of Detail is an opportunity to learn more about what we do, what it takes to get into the industry and chat about the latest trends in gaming. All while enjoying some friendly banter and playing awesome games!”

Rachel added: “The first episode was great fun to record, and we hope this comes across. We have the biggest games department in the UK and Level of Detail is a great way to share the expertise of our lecturing staff and reach out to engage with the gaming community.”

Staffordshire University was recently named in the Top 20 universities in the world for Games Design & Development in the Rookies World School Rankings 2022. Plus its Games Design degree was recognised among the world’s best university courses to learn metaverse skills by the team at Forbes.

Staffordshire University has also built its own in-house metaverse, StaffsVerse, which transports players to an alternate Staffordshire University campus on Mars. Created from scratch by students from a range of games courses, StaffsVerse is shortlisted in the ‘Education Initiative’ category at the upcoming TIGA Games Industry Awards 2022.
