Staffordshire University is boosting its digital credentials through the appointment of a new Visiting Professor of Digital Innovation.

Andrew Proctor, currently Pro Vice-Chancellor for Digital, leaves the University at the end of January to take up a new job as Executive Advisor - Education Strategy for Amazon Web Services (AWS).

However his appointment to Visiting Professor will ensure that the University and students in the School of Digital, Technologies and Arts continues to benefit from his knowledge and expertise for the foreseeable future.

A graduate of Staffordshire University, Andrew joined the University as Director of Digital Services in 2017 before joining the University’s Executive as Pro Vice-Chancellor in 2019.

Andrew was named Chief Digital Officer of the Year at the Computing Digital Technology Leaders Awards in 2020. This accolade follows Andrew’s success in the Digital Leaders 100 Awards – which celebrates the people and organisations who are demonstrating a pioneering and sustainable approach to digital transformation in the UK.

He said: “The invitation to be a Visiting Professor is a huge personal honour for me. I’ve loved working for the University and am proud of how we’ve transformed digital services. We were the first University in Europe to migrate all our systems to the cloud and this enabled us to respond swiftly and confidently to the challenges of the pandemic. We were also the first to launch an AI driven coach for students.

“2022 is an exciting time for the University with the opening of the technology enabled Catalyst building in Stoke-on-Trent and the Centre for Health Innovation at Stafford and I’m delighted to be able to contribute to the great work of the University in this new role.”

Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Martin Jones said: “Andrew has played a major role in driving our digital transformation that is at the core of our emerging 2030 strategy. We are delighted that in his new role as Visiting Professor we can continue working with him in a research and teaching capacity.”
