Final ten battle it out in bid to find Britain’s Greatest Greasy Spoon

Ten traditional British cafés have been shortlisted for a national award in a bid to support old English grub. Nationwide insurance provider Staveley Head launched a mouth-watering competition to find the top cafés that served brilliant butties, beastly breakfasts and the best builder’s brews, as voted for by the British public.

The competition had a staggering 250 nominations and aimed to hunt down the finest of roadside fare. Nominations flooded in from all over the country, with people sharing their love for traditional eateries, quirky hubs and the perfect fry-up, nominating their favourite cafés for a range of reasons, from service with a smile, to top grub and lovely locations.

The ten unique finalists are now battling it  voting challenge to win the prestigious title which will be presented by a glamour model next week.

The ten finalists are:

  • Pete’s Eats: situated at the foot of Mount Snowdon and named the friendliest café in Wales!
  • Harty’s Diner:  A classic Norwich café, with a mission to be tummy and wallet friendly, serving the best fried bread in Britain.
  • PJs: Leeds finest, much more than a butty and breakfast service with hearty dinners to die for.
  • The Full English: Located in Enfield and ran by two sisters who specialise in home cooking. Fresh bread is delivered daily from the local bakers, and that’s why they make the finest toast in town.
  • Smokey Joes:  Located in rural Cornwall it has a local fan-base for steak night, all produce is locally sourced and customers say service is second to none.
  • Goodbody’s: Plymouth’s 24/7 café which serves 20 different types of breakfast, this café is known for its brilliant builders tea and whooping three pint milkshakes.
  • Adam’s Café: Located in the heart of Shepherd Bush, café by day, exquisite African restaurant by night, this gorgeous Tunisian place serves a delightful veggie breakfast.
  • The Horn Milk Bar: A Scottish gem awarded The Best Bacon Buttie in the World, with 15 rashers it’s no surprise, it’s also had its claim to fame on The One Show.
  • Station Café: Located right next to a famous steam railway in Hampshire, this café is loved by bikers across the globe for its homemade pies and hearty dinners.
  • Uplands Diner: A Swansea treat that has risen to fame on Soccer AM, known for its Mega Beast Brekkie which has never been defeated, it’s recently been awarded Best Builders Breakfast 2012.
