The start of Lysekil Women’s Match with 12 of the top ranking crews in women’s match racing is only one week away. Preem Petroleum together with Stena Bulk and Concordia Maritime are the main sponsors during the match racing event, which takes place between
31 July and 4 August.

The opening ceremony is planned for 31 July at 18.00 on Andersson’s quay and during the week, there will also be popular events such as concerts and lectures.

“Winning the trimaran sail racing competition Nokia Oops Cup two years agowhetted our appetite for sail racing. This is the second year for us as one of the main sponsors of the match racing event Lysekil Women’s Match. Last year, many of our employees and customers were able to watch the exciting races and we are convinced that the match racing this year will be just as exciting”, says Ulf G. Ryder, President & CEO of Stena Bulk.

“We are really looking forward to the match races. Lysekil Women’s Match is an event much appreciated by both sailing enthusiasts and our employees. The competition also means a lot for the municipality of Lysekil. This makes Preem’s involvement in the competition particularly important, as the company is a large employer on the West Coast. We wish the arrangers and all the crews all the best”, says Michael G:son Löw, President & CEO of Preem Petroleum AB.

Lysekil offers excellent conditions for match racing – sailing conditions are most often good and because of the currents, the competitors have to risk sailing close to the rocks. The races are held in the middle of Lysekil in “Kyrkeviksbukten” off the island of Släggö. As a result, sail racing is very spectator friendly with the rocks as natural stands for the spectators.

The competition
”Preem Lysekil Women’s Match for the Stena Bulk Trophy” is the world’s largest match racing competition for women with prize money of around SEK 400,000 and was held for the first time in 2004. After a break in 2005, this popular competition will now be held for the third time following its resounding success in 2006. Since 2004, the number of visitors has more than doubled– to about 20,000 last summer.

Participants
The world elite will be participating with Sweden represented by Linda Rahm,
Marie Björling, Jenny Axhede and Malin Millbourn.
