LEADING ferry company, Stena Line, has been unveiled as the headline sponsor of the inaugural Stranraer Oyster Festival which runs from Friday 15th – Sunday 17th September.

As part of Stena Line’s sponsorship a special day trip has been launched to encourage people from Northern Ireland to visit the festival for a fun day out for the whole family. From only £15pp, day-trippers can enjoy return Superfast ferry travel and return coach transfers on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September.

There is an action packed programme of events and festivities over the weekend including oyster tasting and competitions, cooking demonstrations and classes, wild food forages, a skiff regatta and a lively traders’ market packed with locally produced food drink, arts and crafts. There’s lots for families to take part in with craft and kite making workshops, ghost walk tours and extreme pond dipping – a catch landed from the floor of Loch Ryan so that children can explore what lives at the bottom of the sea.

Orla Noonan, Stena Line’s Travel Commercial Manager Irish Sea North said: “We are proud to be the headline sponsor and official ferry partner of the very first Stranraer Oyster Festival. There’s an action-packed programme with lots to see and do and something for everyone over the three days.

“Stena Line has been part of the local community for over 30 years and we hope that through our support of the Oyster Festival along with our other sponsorships, including that of Stranraer Football Club, we can help with the continued regeneration of the town of Stranraer,” Orla said.

Visitors to the Stranraer Oyster Festival can also look forward to guest appearances from Hardeep Singh Kholi and Mr Bloom from Cbeebies, with live music from The Dangleberries, Gnoss and Pere Mata and an evening celebration called The Big Oyster Bash.
