To celebrate the 400th anniversary of Stranraer becoming a Royal Borough, four-hundred boys and girls from across Dumfries and Galloway gathered at the 3G pitch at the Academy to play football.

The 3G pitch was provided courtesy of Stranraer Football Club and ferry company Stena Line gave away family sailings to three lucky winners.

Orla Noonan, Head of Travel – Irish Sea North, Stena Line, said: “We’re delighted to be part of the Stranraer 400 Football Tournament. The plucky players who took part showed some great skills on the pitch and we were delighted to offer three of the nine teams represented on the day with a family return sailing on our Cairnryan – Belfast route.”

Head of Youth Development for Stranraer Football Club, Allan Jenkins, who began his senior career with SFC in 1998 and made over 200 appearances for the club, was singing the praises of the kids: “We made sure everyone had a great day and presented every child who took part with a medal. I was so impressed with the effort put in by all of our boys and girls.”
