As the football season comes to an end for Stranraer Football Club, their main sponsor, Stena Line, asked its staff to name their ‘Player of the Year’ for the 2016/17 season.

It was no easy task, explained Diane Poole OBE from Stena Line: “Every game that Stranraer Football Club plays is attended by many of our staff who love to cheer the team on. When it came to choosing the player of the year, everyone had an opinion but there could only be one winner and following a vote our staff chose defender, Scott Robertson.”

Davie McMillan, Committee Member, Stranraer Football Club, said: “The ‘Player of the Year’ award, as voted for by Stena Line Staff, is very well appreciated by all the supporters of Stranraer FC. Scott has been outstanding throughout the season and is a very committed player who is a favourite of the fans. Stranraer FC are delighted that Stena Line support the club in this manner.”

Stranraer Football Club is currently seventh in the League 1 table after an impressive win over East Fife (2 – 1).

Scott Robertson also received the Marshall Trophy, McIntyre Trophy, the Supporters Club and Coronation Day Centre Committee awards naming him player of the year at the end of season dinner dance at the Fitba Bar in Stranraer.

Diane concluded: “It was a fine end to the season and we hope the run of success continues when the action gets back under way in July.”
